About Us

Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society (NMDS) is Nunavut’s only cross-disability organization. We support Nunavummiut with disabilities of all ages—from infants to Elders.

Together, we are building a more inclusive Nunavut.

NDMS started in 1999 as a small group of community advocates. In 2005, we incorporated as a society and became the representative organization for people living with disabilities
in Nunavut.

Today, we work to raise awareness, improve accessibility, and ensure full participation in society. We believe that disability rights are human rights.

We help people break down barriers, find opportunities, and gain independence. Our goal is to make sure that all Nunavummiut with disabilities can live, work, and take part in their communities.

Our Guiding Principles

Individuality. Self-determination. Community Inclusion.

Persons with disabilities have the right to the supports necessary to take part in their choice of community activities and to participate in society without physical and social barriers.
