A Walk for Kenneth
We are sharing a Facebook post we came across earlier today by Jenna Kilabuk in Pangnirtung, Nunavut listed below.
NDMS will be participating in the Iqaluit walk this Sunday, July 15th at 2pm. We will meet in the parking lot of the Legislative Assembly and will walk down past the RCMP and back towards Tim Hortons, then up the hill ending at the High School. Feel free to participate in the entire walk or just a part of it. If you would like to make a donation to the family, please contact us!
A Walk for Kenneth
I am asking our friends to join me and my son in doing A Walk for Kenneth this Sunday July 15, 2018 at 2:00PM to end of the road. I feel like this is the last thing I can do ~ to raise awareness & hope for persons with disabilities.
For those who don’t know Kenneth. He is turning 5 years old next month and doesn’t have a wheel chair of his own and has been waiting a few years to get one. We live in Pangnirtung, Nunavut which living up north has its own unique challenges. He has never walked in his life, only crawls, due to his disabilities. DR. told us last year that he will never walk. We requested this piece of equipment years ago and he was fitted one year ago in Ottawa but nothig yet. However, I feel lucky to borrow a wheel chair from our health centre that belonged to a late elder and to be able to take him around with it but he cannot operate it on his own as it is not fitted to him, the wheels being too far to reach and not having enough support on his back so he only uses it when we push him. I can’t even begin to share what we go through as it is too humiliating.
