About Us
Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society (NMDS) is Nunavut’s only cross-disability organization. We support Nunavummiut with disabilities of all ages—from infants to Elders.
Together, we are building a more inclusive Nunavut.
NDMS started in 1999 as a small group of community advocates. In 2005, we incorporated as a society and became the representative organization for people living with disabilities in Nunavut.
Today, we work to raise awareness, improve accessibility, and ensure full participation in society. We believe that disability rights are human rights.
We help people break down barriers, find opportunities, and gain independence. Our goal is to make sure that all Nunavummiut with disabilities can live, work, and take part in their communities.

Our Guiding Principles
Individuality
Persons with disabilities have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Programs and supports should be designed to respect the dreams and goals of the individual.
Self-Determination
Persons with disabilities have the right to be treated equally, to make choices, and to maintain personal control over all aspects of their lives.
Community Inclusion
Persons with disabilities have the right to the supports necessary to take part in their choice of community activities and to participate in society without physical and social barriers.

CASE
Canadian Association from Supported Employment (CASE) is a national association that supports the employment sector by helping service providers, employers, and community partners create more inclusive workplaces for Canadians with disabilities. They work to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to join the workforce by offering resources, expertise, and support tailored to the needs of both job seekers and service providers.
CCD
The Council for Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) is a national human rights organization that works to ensure all Canadians with disabilities have equal opportunities to live, work, and participate in society. Founded and led by Canadians with disabilities, CCD advocates for changes in policies and practices to remove barriers in areas like employment, education, and accessibility. By engaging with government, communities, and businesses, they aim to create a more inclusive Canada where every voice is heard and respected.
Inclusion Canada
Inclusion Canada is a national federation that works to ensure people with intellectual disabilities and their families are fully included in every part of Canadian life. They join forces with local associations, community leaders, and government partners to break down barriers and create welcoming environments where everyone can thrive. Inclusion Canada is committed to building a society where you and your loved ones feel valued and respected.
NEADS
National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) is a Canadian organization dedicated to promoting inclusive employment for people with disabilities. They work directly with employers, job seekers, and community partners to create supportive and accessible workplaces. Through innovative programs, expert training, and practical tools, NEADS helps companies understand the benefits of inclusive hiring while empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve meaningful employment. Their goal is to bridge the gap between talented job seekers and employers, building a more equitable workforce across Canada.
New Institute Society
The New Society Institute is a non-profit research, social development, and design organization that funds initiatives that break down barriers for marginalized groups. Their main areas of focus are housing, education, and employment. By partnering with local agencies and community leaders, New Institute Society helps build stronger, more welcoming communities where every individual feels valued and supported.
RWA
Ready Willing & Able (RWA) is a national program that helps Canadian businesses hire people on the autism spectrum or with intellectual disabilities. It’s a free service funded by the Government of Canada and delivered through a partnership between Inclusion Canada and the Autism Alliance of Canada. RWA connects employers with qualified job seekers, offers practical resources and training on inclusive hiring, and shows how a diverse workforce can benefit a company. Since 2014, it’s been working in over 30 communities to break down employment barriers and ensure everyone has a fair chance to contribute and succeed.
